The following biography is from the archives of askART.
Gerhard Graf was born in 1883 in Berlin as the son of the court photographer Heinrich Graf. After his studies he established himself in Berlin and was a teacher at the Grunewald grammar school. But he was drawn from the city to draw in nature. In 1925 he built a cottage by the Plessower Lake in Werder at the Havel River. In 1932 he added an art studio. It soon became a popular meeting point for artists, literates, actors and other creative artists from Berlin and Potsdam.
