Herman Collenius ( Kollum , 1650 - Groningen , 1723 ) was a Groninger portrait - and history painter. He made portraits and paintings of historical events and also was active as an interior painter. His best-known work in this area is the decoration of the famous and the biggest seventeenth century manor house in the province of Groningen , Nienoord in Midwolde in 1675.
The Netherlands has three streets named after him: one in Leek, one in Uithuizen, and one in Groningen. Herman Colleniusstraat Groningen is known for one of the two water towers which Groningen is rich (though formally the Hofstede de Groot Quay).
