The following biography from the Archives of askART
A pupil of Girodet, Philippe-Jacques Van Bree traveled widely during his lifetime. He lived in Italy, Germany, and England, before returning to Belgium where he ended his days. Its historic scenes brought him some international recognition. Among them, works representative of the great painters of the past Rubens painting in his garden surrounded by his family (preserved at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium).
