Cary Knoop graduated with a B.A. in Art in 1950. After graduating from Millikin, Cary Knoop earned an M.F.A. in Printmaking and Art Education from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and continued with one-year post-masters work in sculpture and art history. Cary taught for both public schools in Illinois and as Assistant Professor of Art at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, where he taught both art education and sculpture. Knoop’s artwork is in private collections in Canada, England, Germany, and Ecuador and is on display at The Tarble Arts Center and Booth Library at Eastern Illinois University. His portraits of Lincoln and Douglas sculptures currently hang on the north façade of Charleston City Hall. Even though he is retired, Knoop hasn’t retired from art: he continues to create new pieces from welded steel.
