In recent years she purchased a number of pictures by Nicolai Fechin, noted Russian American artist here. Confined following an automobile accident she began to draw. One day, rather timidly, she asked Fechin if she might receive lessons from him. The 37 figure, flower and landscape paintings in this exhibit grew out of her study with Fechin. Her technical methods and rich color derive partly from his. Flowers and still life are her strong points.”

Biography from the Archives of askART
Born in Nebraska on September 23, 1867, Lorena Lloyd came to southern California with her family in the early 1890s and settled in Simi. She later married Melville Montgomery. An accomplished pianist and art patron, she was recuperating from an automobile accident in the 1930s when she became interested in painting. Inspired by the works of Nicolai Fechin, she studied under him and then produced landscapes, portraits, coastals, and still lifes in a style similar to his. She held her first exhibition at the Stendahl Gallery in Los Angeles in 1941. Mrs. Montgomery died in Simi on Nov. 15, 1959.
